Wescot Team join StepChange in Westminster for key debt strategy launch

Toni Holland Beasley (Operations Support Team Manager) and Matthew Chambers (Business Performance Manager) from Wescot Credit Services had the privilege of being invited to The House of Commons by StepChange Debt Charity last week for the launch of their 2025-30 five year strategy.

The launch formed part of the charity’s Debt Awareness Week campaign, which is a nationwide event heavily focused on tackling the stigma and shame around debt, why it exists and, more importantly, how we can break it down.

As part of Encore Capital Group, our mission and vision centre around partnering with consumers to restore their financial health and provide economic freedom. The provision of free and impartial debt advice is a core feature of our financial markets and the customer support we signpost, so being present to understand the direction StepChange are taking based upon the information they hear from consumers is invaluable to us.

Step Change Hop Narrow

Toni and Matt heard from speakers from StepChange, the wider financial sector and from MP's Gill Furniss and Emma Reynolds. Every speech emphasised just how important the removal of stigma and having healthy supported discussions and outcomes are to all levels of our society.

The key points of discussion from StepChange at the launch were:

* An unwavering focus on good long-term client outcomes
* Being digital-first, data led and powered by experts
* Achieving meaningful change through their policy and influence
* Being a financially sustainable not-for-profit organisation

Toni, Matt and we really appreciated the invite to hear about things first hand. We look forward to continuing to work together to reduce the stigma around debt and get the right outcomes for customers across the UK and Europe.
