Community and togetherness making a real difference at Mortimer Clarke Solicitors
Community and togetherness making a real difference at Mortimer Clarke Solicitors
Could you abseil down Arundel Castle’s 180ft tall main Tower and help raise nearly £8,000 for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice?
That was the question we asked our Mortimer Clarke Solicitors and Cabot colleagues in Worthing…. and 28 of them said yes!
For over 10 years, we have been helping Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice who support children and families in our local community who know they don’t have long together. Chestnut Tree House give the chance for them to live life to the full and say goodbye in the way that is right for them.
Our colleagues in our Worthing office, most of whom live in the town, are immensely proud of the work that we do in support of Chestnut Tree House and volunteer, not just to jump off 180ft high castle towers, but also to give their time by taking part in a variety of activities including:
• Gardening Days – helping to maintain the charities’ gardens.
• Warehouse Days – sorting and preparing the thousands of donations received, ready to be distributed to Chestnut Tree House shops.
• Car Boot Sales
• Half and Full Marathons
We also look to support other local events through sponsorship, such as Worthing Pride.
All these activities are underpinned by one of our Core Values, “We Care”. It’s part of our way of showing we put people first and engage with honesty, empathy and respect.
Lets hear what some of our volunteers had to say when we asked them why our community support is so important to them…
Jess Staunton: “It is such a lovely feeling being able to give back to the local community. I’ve really enjoyed the days I have spent at Chestnut Tree House over the years, and being able to see how much our involvement makes a difference is really rewarding!”
Kim Madisetti: “Having taken part in both the warehouse charity day and attempting the abseil – I can wholeheartedly say keeping my feet firmly on the ground will be my chosen way to help raise money!! In saying that, trying to overcome a fear of heights for such a great and local cause was a challenge, and one I’m proud to have taken part in (even if I did walk down the tower as opposed to sailing down in the wind!)”
Joyce Dunne: “Volunteering is such a wonderful thing to be able to do and yet so many of us don’t have time with how busy life can be. This makes it all that much more important to me that work supports us in giving us time to give back with our community days. It is truly wonderful to spend these days helping out and to raise money/awareness. It’s almost a selfish good deed getting to give back but having a fun team day out at the same time.”
Hannah Clark: “I’m immensely proud of the dedication Cabot/MCS have towards helping Chestnut Tree House as our company charity. Not only have we raised so much money for a fantastic cause over the years, but I have also had the opportunity to take part in once in a lifetime challenges! I’m extremely grateful that Cabot/MCS encourage employees to give back to the Community and this wonderful charity.”
Sam Hill: “Chestnut Tree House do the most incredible work and I’m truly grateful that Cabot provides me the opportunity to support them in any way possible. All of my previous charity days have been brilliant and knowing how much of a difference we make for such a fantastic cause is a massive bonus!”
Chantel Merritt: “I took part in a St Barnabas Charity day at the warehouse based in Broadwater with a few other members of staff. It was such an amazing experience to be able to give back and give support to those who are in most need. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. The staff also explained what we were doing goes to what shops across not just Worthing, but Sussex, and the support we were giving was going so far to help those in most need. I also want to add I was extremely lucky to attend the Chestnut Tree House Snowman Event at the Grand in Brighton in December and WOW what an experience. I laughed , I cried , I donated , I supported, and I came away from it having such a different view on life. Hearing from families and Chestnut Tree House what they go through themselves , children and the families and how far even £20.00 goes is just incredible being there to support such an amazing event is something I never forget.”
As well as giving back to our community, we also work hard at having fun together! Colleagues are regularly asked to “Challenge the Leaders” in scenarios like Ten-Pin Bowling, Pub Quizzes and more recently, Axe Throwing!
