This is a new role within the business and a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to make the role their own. Azure is a key part of Cabot’s environment and growing rapidly, and you would be able to use their experience to influence the direction this takes.
The role sits within the IT Operations area. We are looking for an experienced Azure Data Specialist with a remit to assist in designing, implementing and supporting solutions from the Azure Data stack, migrate existing on-premises solutions to the cloud, and provide day to day support for the Azure Data architecture.
You will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and support of the Cabot Azure environment.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Defining and designing the most appropriate technical solutions the fulfil a business / operational need
- Ensure consistency of design and implementation across data solutions within the organization
- Migrating existing on-premises Data solutions to the MS Azure / Cloud services
- Providing governance to the cloud environments by ensuring that the processes and guidelines are followed
- Support the design and implementation of cloud solutions as part of the lifecycle of projects
- Maintain up to date knowledge on current and emerging Azure / Cloud Data technologies as the subject matter expert in this area

Things we need from you:
- Proven experience designing and implementing solutions built on Microsoft Azure
- Experience in core Azure Data skills such as Databricks, Data Lake Gen2, SQL Server PaaS solutions (SQL Database, Hyperscale, Managed instance), Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure pipelines, Azure Key Vault, Azure DevOps
- Experienced in designing and building cloud based ETL/ELT pipelines
- Capable of choosing the right data stores/data processing for the job (relational and non-relational stores, batch, and Real Time processing).
- Knowledge of automation tools and the concepts of Automation, for example JAMs and Azure Automation
- Proven knowledge and experience of supporting and maintaining on-premises SQL solutions / ideally with a background in a DBA role
- Knowledge of data governance (data catalogues, metadata management)
- Experience using PowerShell for implementing / maintaining Azure solution
- Experience of Azure monitoring and security features
- Practical experience with infrastructure as code
- Hold a relevant Azure Certification or able to evidence relevant experience
- A strong data driven background, ideally in a DBA role or similar
